Bridge Repair

March 21, 2018

Subject: River Cary Footbridge Refurbishment - ref: 2224

I am writing to you as the Parish Clerk for Charlton Mackerell and the PPLO for Somerton Parish.

I am currently putting a project together to carry out some maintenance to the above bridge which is over the River Cary where public footpaths L 6/11 and L 18/8 meet.  Please find attached a location plan.

Works will include removal of all timber elements, stripping paint, preparing steels, repainting all steel elements and installing new timber.  The bridge will need to be closed during the works.  Please note that whilst the closure will be for 6 months, this is just to cover us in case of weather and in reality the path should only be closed for 2-3 weeks.

I am awaiting information from the County Ecologist and the Environment Agency regarding whether I need a permit to carry out the works and then will need to go through a procurement process. Works are likely to be scheduled between mid June and the end of September 2018.

I will update you again once I have more information, but in the meantime if either Parish have any questions about the project please let me know.

Kind Regards

Rachel Pearce
